How to get there

Antenatal clinic at North Shore is located in a building on the corner of Shea Tce and Mary Poynton Cres. Enter through the front door, Antenatal Clinic is on the left and Paediatric (PACE) Clinic is on the right.

Preparing to attend

  1. Look up the patients before you arrive using Clinical Portal and Badgernet.

    • Write down the following information. Maternal Age, GxPx, Gestation, Background including previous mode of deliveries, BMI, Medical conditions, Reason for Referral, Last USS (date/gestation/placental location/presentation/EFW+/-dopplers, liquor volume), Recent blood results (Hb, Ferritin, Blood Group, GTT/HbA1c, etc)

    • Write a Problem List and any Investigations or management possibilities

  2. Watch ‘How to examine a pregnant abdomen’ video on CANVAS

  3. Make sure you arrive early, before the clinic starts

  4. Ensure you have a paper measuring tape (they are in each clinic room)

When you arrive

  1. Introduce yourself to the reception staff, say you are here to sit in with the doctor. Ask where you should wait.

  2. When the doctor arrives, introduce yourself. Say that you have looked up the cases.

What you might be able to do from the logbook

  1. Conduct an antenatal history and exam

  2. Examination of a pregnant abdomen

  3. Assessment of clinical conditions eg SGA, Pregnancy with a pre-existing medical condition (See Page 6-7)

Other opportunities to look out for

  • Take BP

  • Read the urine dipstick

  • Order an USS

  • Discuss postpartum contraception options

  • Counsel on the benefits of vaccination in pregnancy

  • Perform an USS for fetal presentation
