Preparing to attend

Look up the patients before you arrive using clinical portal.

Make sure you arrive on time. 7:30am for morning list. 12:30 for afternoon list.

Revise ‘How to do a Pelvic Examination’ as theatre is a good place to perform these.

Bring your consent stickers.

When you arrive

Introduce yourself to the pre-op staff, ask them where to get scrubs. Get changed and wait in the pre-op area for the SMO to arrive.

When the doctor arrives, introduce yourself and tell them that you have looked up the cases.

Ask if any of the patients would be suitable for a pelvic examination.

What you might be able to do from the logbook

• Conduct a speculum/bimanual examination (Remember your stickers)

• Interpret urinary pregnancy test

• Insert a urinary catheter

• Assist in theatre: D+C, (See Page 8-9)
